August

August was another fun month. We visited Morton Arboretum with Mary & Brian.  Reese loved the maze.

They had a lego exhibit created by a lego artist, and the structures were incredible!

Our friends invited us to their lake house in Indiana the weekend before school started. It was the best wrap up for summer. We had such a great family weekend with the kids.

The kids convinced Matt to get in the kiddie pool with them when we got home.

And then the dreaded day came. The day we sent our baby to preschool and our big baby to kindergarten. We were both kind of emotional wrecks about the whole thing (ok, maybe I was a tad worse). We were filled with so much worry about how they would adapt and adjust, and then filled with sadness that the years have already slipped by so quickly. I just want to keep them babies forever.  But we can't, so it was time to put on the brave face and embrace this next stage of life.

These two were SO excited. That made things a bit easier.

We waited at the bus stop for a LONG time. The bus was running about 30 min behind schedule (the bus is all kindergarteners, so I guess we should have expected that!).  Reese was very calm and very ready. I was snapping pictures to hide my tears behind the camera. :)

She was very excited when we finally saw the bus come around the block.

She got on like she had done it a million times. No big deal. We were so proud of her.

This poor little dude. He did not handle things so well.

As soon as the bus pulled away, he started yelling that he wanted them to bring his sister back. He laid face down in the driveway and had a good hard cry. It was pretty much exactly how I felt. But he eventually got up and he went to preschool. He did great too!  He was too excited to get busy to really even tell us goodbye.

We finally busted out our Kitchen Aid ice cream maker. We have had it since we got married, but had never used it. The ice cream was delicious!!!

We took the kids up to Madison to the farmer's market. It's one of the biggest in the country, and we had wanted to check it out for a long time. Now that Matt's cousin lives up there, it gave us the perfect reason to go. It was very impressive! I wish it was closer to home.

The kids loved picking out our food. We let Reese keep money in her purse, and she loved telling them what we needed and paying for everything.
