1st Vaccines

Reese got her first set of vaccines on Thursday afternoon. She did SO good! They did one in each leg, & they did them simultaneously so it was over really quickly. She cried for a brief second, but she was fine as soon as they handed her back to us. She was totally fine until about 7:00 that night. At that point, she got reeeeeally fussy, & she would scream bloody murder if you just barely brushed against her little legs (which was hard to avoid while holding her, moving her, & changing her diaper. It was SO sad. I hate that she has to go through this so many more times, but I know it's what's best for her. Here are her cute chubby legs with her bandaids.

Other than that, it was a pretty uneventful week, so I'll just give you lots of pictures!

Her Baby Legs finally fit (well, sort of), and they look so cute on her little legs!

2 Months!

Reese turned 2 months old yesterday! To celebrate this milestone...SHE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can you tell that I'm pretty excited about this? I'm sure this is not even close to the end of our nighttime wakings, but I'm just happy to know that we're making progress. We had originally put her to bed around 8, but she woke up hungry at 9:15. I had kind of figured this would happen because she wasn't interested in eating before she went to sleep. She went back to sleep at 9:45 & slept until 6:45. I, of course, did not sleep through the night. I kept waking up & checking on her because I was so surprised that she hadn't woken up. I thanked her a lot today & told her how much I appreciated her sleeping through the night, so hopefully she'll do it again soon!

We had her 2 month visit to the pediatrician today. She is growing right on track, & everything looks great. She weighed in at 11 pounds, 2 ounces, & she's 22.75 inches long (so, she's up 4 pounds, 12 ounces, & 3.75 inches since birth). Her head circumference is 38.75cm. We decided to wait to give her the 2 month vaccinations until next week because we want her to be 100% finished with her cold to make sure that her immune system isn't compromised at all. We will go back for her 1st shots on Thursday night. :(

She is definitely getting more & more fun everyday. She's getting so much more interactive, & her smiles are THE BEST. My sister's husband explained it perfectly when he said that for the first several weeks, you give and give and give to your baby. They take, take, take, but aren't really able to give anything back. And then, the smiles start. It's so cool to feel like they're able to do something to reciprocate your affection. Her smile melts my heart every single time. I feel like she might like me. :)

Here are some pictures from this afternoon. I gave her Sophie the Giraffe for the 1st time, & she loved chewing on her face. She cried when it moved away from her mouth, so I kept putting it back, & she would gnaw away at it. So cute.

And this is a perfect picture of what it's like around here when our furbabies feel the baby is getting too much attention.

Reese's 1st Cold :(

Reese has her 1st cold. She started getting a little stuffy on Friday morning, & by Friday night, she had a full blown cold. I called the pediatrician, & the nurse was SO nice. She reassured me that every 1st time parent calls about the first cold, & told me that she knew how scary it was to hear their congested breathing. So, I'm not the only crazy parent out there. :) It's so sad to see her so stuffy & her eyes all watery. She has been a real trooper though. I keep telling myself that it's helping to build her immune system.

We had a full day of cuddling on Saturday, & Reese just slept all day long in her adorable little cupcake pajamas. When she was awake, she was still her smiley self, which made us feel much better.

On Sunday afternoon, she was still stuffy, but having a good day. It was 80 degrees outside, & sunny, so we decided to take her out for a walk. She wore her first hat for the occasion, & she looked so cute.

She kept trying to look at the hat:

And, this photo session ended the same way most of our photo sessions end. I take too many pictures, & Reese lets me know that she has had enough.

Labor Day Weekend

Labor Day Weekend was so much fun. Exhausting, but fun. Brian (my BIL), Jacqi (my sister), & Austin (my nephew) were home from Florida. My parents were in their glory with both of the grandkids around (and I'm sure they were happy to have us there too). My cousin, Ashley, got married on Saturday, & we got to take Reese to the wedding & show her off to the family. The wedding was beautiful, and Reese was really good all day. I had SO much fun dressing her up for the day. She looked so adorable (if I may say so myself). Unfortunately, she was not very fond of my pre-wedding photo shoot, so I didn't get the greatest pictures, but you get the idea.

On Sunday, we took a very big step & left Reese for the first time to go to the Cubs/Mets game with Brian & Jacqi. I was so nervous to leave her, and I was up until 2:00 in the morning trying to decide if I could really do it. I typed up a list of instructions for my parents, & that made me feel much better. I know that my parents are perfectly capable of caring for a baby, but it made me feel better to put everything in writing. Matt was teasing me because the list was 2 pages long, but I reminded him that when we leave Bailey with a dog sitter, her list of instructions is a full page, so I didn't think doubling that for the baby was that bad. I cried when we left, & then got teary a few times throughout the day, but overall, we had a great time. I was so happy to get back home to her though. Once we got back, we headed out to Matt's parents for a cookout with his family. Reese was pretty excited about all of the day's activities, & refused to sleep. She decided to party until 1 a.m., which was pretty exhausting.

On Monday, we spent a very low key day at my parents. Austin showed a lot more interest in Reese, & it was pretty cute. He even checked out her headband. :)

Long time no update

Normally, 12 days wouldn't seem like a long time in between updates, but since Reese changes so much every day right now, it seems like forever! She is getting so big. I weighed her this morning (using a very accurate & scientific method of weighing myself & then weighing myself holding her), & she is up to 10 pounds! She's getting lots of fat rolls, & they are adorable.

One of the reasons it's been awhile in between updates is because our internet has been running REALLY slow. I tried to upload pictures the other day, & it took a hour & a half to upload 16 pictures! It's been brutal trying to do anything online. So, we finally called AT&T, & they sent out a repair guy. The tech found the problem really quickly...Moxie. Apparently, our precious little kitten has been chewing on our internet cords, & had cut through a couple of the lines. So, if anyone has any suggestions on how to get a cat to stop chewing on wires, they would be greatly appreciated. But, for now, our internet is up & running quickly again.

Last Friday, Reese had her first big trip into the city. She & I went to visit my friend Morgan & her daughter, Quinn, in Chicago. I was really nervous taking my first long drive alone with the baby. I was so worried that we would be stuck in traffic & she would need something, or start crying, & there would be nothing I could do. But, she was an angel in the car both ways.

The weather was absolutely gorgeous, so Morgan & I took the girls for a walk. While we were walking, we had 2 women come up to us & tell us how adorable our babies were. And then they said that they were going to steal them. Haha. Yeah, that was pretty funny. :| We stopped into a pub to get something to eat, and when we walked inside, we realized that it was a gay bar. So, Reese has been to her 1st gay bar. I regretted not dressing her in her adorable rainbow dress for the occasion. Oh well. All in all, it was a pretty big day for her.

The rest of last weekend and this week have been devoted to trying to find Reese a dress for my cousin Ashley's wedding this weekend. Matt is absolutely thrilled (and rightly so) that for every special occasion, there are now TWO females who need outfits. He had a blast shopping all week. He did. He just probably wouldn't admit it if you asked him. Haha.

Our biggest excitement this week was that we started using cloth diapers. I am SO excited about using them (I know, I'm a total dork). I absolutely hate throwing away all of these diapers, knowing that they are going to sit in a landfill. I also hate having all of the chemicals in disposable diapers against her skin all day. The money savings will be nice too--diapers really add up fast!!!! We know that it won't be realistic for us to have her in cloth diapers all of the time since we're on the go a lot, but we're hoping to keep her in them as much as possible, and just use the disposables as needed. So far, it's going really well, and her little bottom looks so cute in them!!!!

I think she was getting sick of me taking her picture:
